Professor Tim Lopez

Master Machado and Professor Lopez

Professor Lopez began training when he was 16 years old with John De La O. He went on to train with Pride fighter Chris Brennan, Marco Ruas, the King of the Streets, and at Cal State Long Beach with Eddie Martinez.

In 2007, Professor Lopez fought in the Pan Ams and won gold as a purple belt Masters. He was ranked 14th in the world.

He defended his title in 2008 and tied for first in 2009.

In his 30s, Professor Lopez walked into Master John Machado's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in El Segundo, CA. He is one of the world-famous Machado brothers who taught Chuck Norris, Keanu Reeves (John Wick), and Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks) Jiu Jitsu.

Professor Lopez was awarded his black belt in 2013 from Master John Machado. He continued to train and teach for Master John Machado for several years before creating his own club.

October 23, 2021, Professor Lopez was awarded 3 stripes, making him a third-degree black belt under Master John Machado. He is currently one of the highest-ranking black belts in Riverside County.

In 2023, Professor Lopez taught for a short duration with UFC. In the short time he was there, produced 5 gold medals in their regional tournament.

After leaving UFC, he re-opened MBJJC in its current location. On February 9, 2024, he affiliated with his Master, Master John Machado. This affiliation solidifies the bond between MBJJC and the Machado legacy. Professor Lopez shares the same mentality, technique, and skillset as Master John Machado. His teaching approach mirrors the philosophy of humility and service encapsulated by the motto "Leave Your Ego At The Door." He teaches everyone as a black belt, regardless of experience.
